Coming in 2006-07 as part of Bayshore Medical Center's $28 Million Expansion

Creating an aesthetically appealing atmosphere of calm, serenity and healing for our patients at Bayshore Medical Center has consistently been a major consideration in the design and planning of the $28 million expansion currently in progress at Bayshore Medical Center.

Colorful and decorative accents to the newly-remodeled brick hospital entrance will invite patients in like the entrance to a fine hotel.  Combined under one central canopy, the front entrances will be connected with a path to the outpatient services entrance.  Symbolically reaching out to the community, the canopy will be extended to include the outpatient services entrance.

Accent lighting will create a quiet hush, and a uniquely inviting feel to the surrounding grounds, complete with landscaping reminiscent of a well-manicured park.  Palm trees and luscious Seigo palms spread their branches as if welcoming visitors.

But the changes to the hospital are more than superficial, more than aesthetic. There are substantial changes which improve both the services and the quality of care.  Always a supreme presence in the Pasadena community with the finest of physicians and equipment, Bayshore Medical Center continues to be a cut above by updating and upgrading everything from the outpatient services to radiology and surgical services.

Over 61,000 square feet of renovations and new constructions will take place in Bayshore Medical Center over the next 24 months beginning with our groundbreaking on March 1, 2005.  The renovations include the expansion of the radiology department and the surgery suite.   Upon completion, the expansion will increase the number of operating rooms to 11 with specialization in areas of Neurology, Orthopedics and Cardiology.

Three Cardiac Catheterization Labs and two Endoscope Procedure Rooms will join the new Operating Rooms.

"We have taken great care to update the surgery suites," said Phillip D. Robinson, Bayshore Medical Center's CEO. We haven't left anything out.  The Radiology Department renovation has added a new Angiography Room and two CAT Scan Rooms.  These spaces as well have been created with state-of-the-art care in an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Many patients who need services for the day only visit Bayshore as outpatients.  The newly-designed Outpatient Surgery Waiting area will be divided into four sections for easy access. The area will contain a reception desk, and both a quiet and active waiting area along with a coffee bar. Using natural elements of wood and rice paper fused with transparent materials and brushed aluminum, the waiting area welcomes patients and families into a secure, comforting environment.

"We want to make sure that our patients feet good about coming here and that everything is as close to being at home as possible," Robinson says.   Upon arrival, patients will be greeted and registered at the reception desk. Our active area has a television, tables to play games, children's activities and health education.  We expect a very good response to this.

We will also have a quiet area with space for relaxation and quiet activities like reading. We understand that this can be a stressful time and we want to accommodate and respect those waiting.  We will also have a coffee bar, which kind of lightens up everything making it very homey and friendly.  We tried to blend nature and technology.  I think we will succeed in making it all that we hope it can be for our patients, visitors, physicians and employees.

A leaf-accented motif will symbolize the facility's branching out and expanding to better serve the community.  This design creates a healing environment with a human touch that integrates with state-of-the-art technology.

Soft greens, purples and golds used throughout the project will reflect the colors of nature. These colors will give the spaces a spa-like atmosphere, enhancing the healing process and creating a positive patient experience.

"Even the private staging rooms that we use for procedure preparations and recovery will be created to have a homey artistic feel," Robinson says. "We will use decorative lighting and color to make the patients feel at home."

The floor pattern in the corridor will create a rhythm of flowing leaves that will welcome the patients to one of the 16 Staging Rooms and 13 Patient Post Anesthesia Care Units.
